Kaduna State Approves 2025 Salary Agreement for KASU Academic Staff
Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani approves the 2025 FGN-ASUU salary package for Kaduna State University academic staff, effective October 2026.
Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has officially approved the implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-Academic Staff Union of Universities (FGN-ASUU) salary agreement for academic staff at Kaduna State University (KASU). This approval will take effect from October 2026, marking a significant development in addressing the compensation concerns of university lecturers in the state.
The announcement comes amidst an ongoing indefinite strike initiated by the KASU branch of ASUU on Wednesday, prompted by unresolved demands related to staff welfare and remuneration. The strike has disrupted academic activities, emphasizing the urgency for a resolution.
At a press briefing held in Kaduna on Friday, the Commissioner of Education, Prof. Abubakar Sani Sambo, disclosed that the approval followed the recommendations of a nine-member Government-KASU/ASUU Negotiation Committee. This committee was constituted by Governor Uba Sani to engage in constructive dialogue and negotiate terms that would satisfy both parties.
Prof. Sambo elaborated that the approved package encompasses the revised Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure (CONUASS), the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance, and other applicable salary adjustments and allowances outlined in the 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement. These measures aim to enhance the welfare of academic staff, ensuring that their compensation aligns with federal standards and recognizes their professional contributions.
The decision by the Kaduna State government to implement the salary agreement reflects a commitment to resolving labor disputes within the academic sector and fostering an environment conducive to learning and research. It also signals a proactive approach to addressing longstanding issues that have affected university staff morale and productivity.
Stakeholders in the education sector have welcomed the development, viewing it as a positive step toward ending the indefinite strike and restoring normal academic activities at KASU. The implementation of the salary package is expected to improve staff motivation, retention, and ultimately, the quality of education delivered to students.
Governor Uba Sani’s administration is optimistic that this intervention will set a precedent for collaborative engagements between government and academic unions, promoting stability and progress within Kaduna State’s higher education institutions.
The resolution also underscores the importance of dialogue and negotiation in addressing industrial actions and highlights the role of government in ensuring that agreements reached at the federal level are effectively adopted at state institutions.
