The Oba of Benin has made a strong move by stripping Juliet Omogui, leader of the Isikhuan group, of her traditional title, _Okao_.

This came after Omogui publicly owned up to some allegations against her in a viral social media video. The announcement was made by the Oba’s Chief Press Secretary, Osaigbovo Iguobaro.

It’s not just the title she’s losing. The Oba also ordered her to return the traditional _Okuku_ headgear to the palace. She’s to hold on to it until the palace gives further instructions — a clear sign of how seriously the monarch is taking this, and his commitment to protecting Benin’s culture.

Chief Osaro Idah, the Obazelu of Benin, delivered the Oba’s decision at an emergency palace meeting on Sunday. Members of the Isikhuan group were also given a chance to explain their side of the story and their role in the whole incident.

The mood at the meeting was tense. Senior palace chiefs didn’t hold back their disappointment.
Chief Ada Igbinovia, Eribo N’Ibiwe; Chief Imade Osamuyi Amos, Oshodi N’Ibiwe; and Chief Enoma Ogiesughe, Ogiesughe N’Ewaise all spoke out, calling it a direct disrespect to the Benin throne and its traditions.

A big part of the discussion focused on Chief Igbinedion. Chief Idah questioned why he allowed the Isikhuan group to perform for him. Given that Chief Igbinedion knows Benin customs very well and has even vowed to uphold them, many saw it as confusing and troubling.

This whole situation shows the push and pull between tradition and modern life. The Oba’s firm response sends a clear message: Benin’s customs matter, and undermining the monarchy comes with consequences.

For now, all eyes are on the palace. The return of the _Okuku_ headgear is seen as a step toward restoring order and respect. The Oba and his chiefs are making it clear they’ll continue to protect the dignity of Benin’s heritage and ensure people follow the values passed down by their ancestors.
