Anambra Police Command Seizes Illegal Firearms, Arrests Nine Suspects

The Anambra State Police Command has successfully intercepted two vehicles transporting illegal firearms, resulting in the arrest of nine individuals, including seven males and two females. This significant breakthrough was achieved during a stop-and-search operation conducted at a checkpoint in Isuofia, located within the Aguata Local Government Area of the state, in the early hours of Friday.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of the Joint Operation Base, Aguata, which is led by the Chief Superintendent of Police, Austin Elaigwu. The exercise was a collaborative effort involving multiple security agencies working in unison to curb the proliferation of illegal weapons within the state.

According to a press statement issued by the spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the coordinated checkpoint activity led to the interception of the two vehicles suspected of carrying illegal arms. The multi-agency team that participated in this operation comprised personnel from the Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Army, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service, and operatives of the local Agunechemba Security Outfit.
