Ogun Correctional Service Arrests Woman for Drug Smuggling Attempt

The Ogun State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service has apprehended a woman, Mrs. Iyabo Sowunmi, following an attempt to smuggle suspected illicit drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre located in Ibara, Abeokuta. The drugs were allegedly intended for her son, Dare Sowunmi, who is currently on death row at the correctional facility.

According to a statement issued on Monday by Olayinka Odukoya, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Correctional Service, Ogun State Command, the arrest took place during a routine screening at the main entrance of the facility. The incident was recorded at approximately 1:33 pm on Friday, August 28, 2026.

Odukoya disclosed that Mrs. Sowunmi was found in possession of a substance suspected to be "Colos," a psychoactive synthetic drug known for its illicit use. This substance was cleverly concealed inside a sachet of a popular beverage powder, which was intended to be passed on to her son within the institution.
