Minister David Umahi Urges Immediate Contract Termination for Benin-Asaba Road Concessionaire

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has made a formal appeal to the concessionaire responsible for the Benin-Asaba road to promptly submit a written request to the Federal Government via the Ministry of Works, seeking approval to terminate their existing contract. This move is aimed at facilitating progress and resolving ongoing issues related to the road project.

During a stakeholders’ engagement held on Wednesday at the Government House in Benin, Minister Umahi emphasized the urgency of the matter, underscoring the necessity for the concessionaire to take immediate action. He remarked, “We are therefore pleading with you to give us written approval to proceed in this manner, we believe this is the way forward.”

In addition to the appeal for contract termination approval, the minister issued a direct order for the concessionaire to urgently remove all obstructions and blockages along the Benin-Asaba road. These blockages have been impeding the free flow of traffic, causing delays and inconveniences for commuters and transporters alike.
