Osun Governor Orders Coroner Inquest into Ikire Violence Incident

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has initiated an official investigation into the tragic events that unfolded at Naira and Kobo Junction, Motor Park/Garage Area in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area. On August 24, 2026, violence erupted resulting in killings, shootings, and injuries, prompting urgent government action to uncover the facts and ensure justice.

The governor has signed an Executive Order establishing a Coroner Inquest/Panel of Inquiry specifically tasked with probing the circumstances surrounding the incident. This panel is led by Magistrate Ayokunle Shiyanbola, a respected judicial officer appointed to oversee a transparent and thorough investigation. The panel’s mandate includes identifying the victims, determining the exact number affected, and establishing both the immediate triggers and underlying causes of the violence.
